Who Will My Money Impact?

As we crawl out of COVID and back to something that is somewhat normal, my question to you is – Who are you going to support?

With our economy in disarray – where are you going to spend your money today?

Yes, we have heard all the tag lines – #supportlocal #supportsmallbusiness #shoplocal #smallbusiness #supportlocalbusiness #handmade #shopsmall #localbusiness #eatlocal #buylocal #covid #local #food #love #stayhome #community #drinklocal #staysafe #fashion #beer #support #instagood #coffee #art #takeout #socialdistancing #bhfyp etc

But what really matters is, where you actually spend your money. As consumers we can make a real difference: Instead of buying online, buy local and support a small family business. When you spend money with a small business, it has a direct impact on a local family, who then invests back into the local community economy. Sounds cliche, but it’s the reality of how we are going to beat the current situation.

So let me share the Hire for Baby story. We are a network of small local businesses across Australia – most of us are Mums who have a dream of a better work / life balance and in return, we work hard to support local families and small businesses just like us. We get it!

When you have a choice, what we ask of you as consumers is this:

Who will my money impact? – A small local business, public company or multinational.

Whether a baker, a butcher or a hiring company like Hire for Baby, you can make that choice.

How nice is to bump into your local supplier down the street.

We often bump into customers/suppliers down the street and have watched our customers’ kids grow beyond our services, which is great – it’s not just about the quality of service, it’s the ongoing relationship and support that small businesses offer.

Even in our space the multinationals have decided to tap into our market – which is fine, competition is part of running a business. My question to you is, can they deliver the same service, passion and knowledge from a local operator or are you happy to deal with a call centre and hope they get your product to you. Will they make it happen for you in simple easy steps, or do they have too many processes and rigid rules?

Our number one tip to you as the consumer – always check the fine print of what you are getting!

What I can tell you about most local businesses, particularly out of COVID, we love our business and we love our customers. Some operators have kept their doors open even when they were not making enough money to cover their overheads. The decision was simple really, the customers were important to them, particularly those whom they’ve had long standing relationships with, so they stayed open – sometimes only bringing in a fraction of the income.

Lets get Australia back on track by ensuring that we make sure that all small businesses survive.

More reasons for supporting local businesses:

“In addition to helping build the local economy, there are also notable intangible benefits that come from supporting businesses in your local community, namely:

  • Local businesses are owned and operated by your neighbors! They care about and are invested in the well-being of your community and its future.
  • Local businesses are more accountable to their local communities and donate more money to non-profits.
  • Supporting local businesses is good for the environment because they often have a smaller carbon footprint than larger companies. Source

You as a consumer can make a difference.

Dealing with people face to face is just as important.

Let’s kick this recession to the Kerb!
